National Disaster Consciousness Month
Taytay: Earthquake is one of the famous disasters that caused fatalities and damage of properties. No one can detect ahead of time but may happen anytime and anywhere. Earthquake is a natural phenomenon caused by the constant movements of the earth’s crustal plates and due to climate change too.
Alongside with it, the Calabrian Formation School, Inc. conducted the simultaneous school-based earthquake drill last July 31,2019 at 8:00 a.m. This was also affirmed by virtue of the DepEd Order 71,series of 2014, in pursuance of Executive Order 137,S,1999 declaring every Month of July as National Disaster Consciousness Month (NDCM). This DepEd Memorandum stated that all public and private schools and DepEd offices in full cooperation with the national Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) should undertake a Simultaneous National School-based Earthquake Drill. This series of activities is guided with a Theme: "Kahandaan at Kaligtasan ng pamayanan, pundasyon ng kaunlaran." The drill started with a short Orientation headed by Mrs. Ma. Luz Iglesia - School Head Teacher. After the flag ceremony she disseminated the necessary information about the occurrence of earthquake as well as the need to carry out the drill to enhance the learners awareness on the safety measures explaining the What, How When, Where, and Why of doing the drill. The ceremonial pressing of button where all the teachers showed examples to the learners so that they will follow urgently. From Kinder to Grade 6 together with their teacher followed strictly the three important things during an earthquake. These are the Ducking, Covering and Holding. Then, the drill ended in a smooth and orderly way.
