Health Teachings and Out-Patient-Department Clinic

Taytay: In collaboration with Bro. Francisco Perez Clinic, Inc. (BFPC), the clinic clerks of the University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center, Inc (UERMMMCI), had a total of 10 patients during our one month rotation at BFPC averaging about one patient per day. Their patients ranged from 16-63 year old and we encountered cases which included upper respiratory tract infection, hypertension, pulmonary tuberculosis and urinary tract infection. They also performed minor surgeries in 13 patients, 11 of which underwent circumcision, 1 had incision & drainage and another one underwent debridement. They also participated in laboratory work such as phlebotomy. Their patients were cooperative in sharing their health issues.

The group also conducted several health teaching lectures throughout their rotation. They conducted three lectures at Calabrian Formation School. The lectures encompassed topics like heat stroke & dehydration, common skin diseases and hygiene. Their main purpose was to increase the general knowledge of the population out these topics by learning to recognizing the signs and symptoms of these conditions. They also discussed the possible management of both conditions. To ensure that the audience understood their lecture, they also prepared activities to conclude the lectures such as question & answer. For the lecture of proper personal

hygiene, we discussed proper hand washing, good hygiene etiquette and the diseases related to poor hygiene. We felt that these lectures were relevant to the community, especially because many diseases can be transmitted through poor hygiene care. Overall, the audiences were receptive and we did not have any issues with crowd control.
