Regional Calabrian Family Gathering

Cagayan de Oro City: Today marks the second day of the Regional Gathering of Calabrian Lay of Mindanao. Participants have come from various locations where our mission is present, specifically from Jose Abad Santos or Caburan under the parish of Our Lady of Assumption, and from Cagayan de Oro City. This event serves as a preparation for the upcoming culmination of the year-long Jubilee year event on October 8, 2023, which commemorates the birth of our founder, St. John Calabria.

The event commenced on the evening of August 18, 2023, with a Holy Eucharist celebration, followed by a dinner and a friendly introductory game. This allowed the Calabrian lay members to connect, exchange greetings, and get acquainted with others from different regions.

Moving on to the second day, the proceedings started with a Holy Eucharist celebration, followed by breakfast. Participants then proceeded to the activity venues. The main program featured an open house tour and presentations on Calabrian spirituality by designated religious figures.

The first stop was at the PSDP Sisters’ house in Bry. Carmen. Sr. Rosella presented the life of St. John Calabria and the history of the PSDP Sisters. The second stop was at the Calabrian Children’s Foundation – Home for Boys in Brgy. Bayabas. Fr. Ronnie Lapara presented the life of St. John Calabria and his work with children.

The third stop was at the Calabrian Children’s Foundation – Home for Girls in Brgy. Kauswagan. Ms. Yolanda Templa shared the history of the Calabrian Children's Foundation, discussing its challenges and success stories. This segment also included a singing performance by the girls.

The final stop took place Fr. Luigi Pedrollo Formation House In Brgy. Lumbia. Fr. Eleazar Matulin presented the life of St. John Calabria and history of the PSDP Priests and brothers. After his presentation, the attendees shared their experiences and realizations from the day's events.

The sharing session was followed by adoration before the blessed Sacrament and a Holy Hour of prayer. Subsequently, dinner was served, and participants rehearsed their presentations for the event's culmination scheduled for tomorrow, August 20, 2023.

The culmination will conclude with a Mass and a program.
