Calbayog City, Samar — In the early hours of Friday, around 2:00 AM, Typhoon Opong swept through Western Samar, leaving visible damages at the Nazareth Formation House. Despite the strong winds and heavy rains, the community is thankful that everyone remained safe.
The storm caused several damages in the formation house: broken windows allowed rainwater to enter the religious rooms and the movie area, which then flowed down to the lower level. The chapel roof leaked in some areas, affecting television monitors, while several trees—including the community’s treehouse—fell. Parts of the animal house were also damaged.
“Our safety is the most important thing. We are grateful for God’s protection,” a member of the formation house said, emphasizing that restoration and repair efforts have already begun.
The community drew strength from the words of Scripture in Nehemiah 2:18: “I also told them about the gracious hand of my God on me... They replied, ‘Let us start rebuilding.’ So they began this good work.”
With trust in Divine Providence and the intercession of St. John Calabria, the Nazareth Formation House looks forward to recovery and rebuilding.
San Giovanni Calabria, prega per noi! 🙏
