Caburan, Jose Abad Santos – Today, 28th of March 2025, members of the Family and Life Apostolate (FLA) of the Our Lady of the Assumption Parish (OLAP), Caburan, and Fr. Marc Yape, PSDP, their spiritual director, go to Tomas Lachica District Hospital for their hospital apostolate. They do this every last Friday of the month as part of their regular schedule.
In this activity, they spent time with the sick and celebrated mass for their fast recovery and healing. Fr. Marc as well administered the sacrament of the anointing of the sick to them.
In the teachings of the Catholic church, visiting the sick is one of the corporal works of mercy. In Matthew 25:31-46, Jesus identifies himself with the least members of our society: the sick, the naked, the imprisoned, the hungry, the abandoned, and the homeless. By attending to the physical and spiritual needs of the patients, the FLA community heeds Jesus’ biblical mandate that caring for them is caring for Jesus whose presence can be found in them.
This apostolate to the sick is also very timely. In this Lenten season, one of the traditional Lenten practices aside from prayer, fasting, and abstinence is also almsgiving. Being with the sick and sharing ample time with them manifests FLA community’s commitment of caring, giving, and rearing others towards faith in Jesus, the Divine Healer.
