Calabrian Family Gathering in CDO

Cagayan de Oro City: As customarily done every month, members of Calabrian Family in Cagayan de Oro gather together for a birthday celebration with the staff and clients of Calabrian Children’s Foundation (CCF). This moment is greatly significant not only because we give thanks to God for His gift of life to all the birthday celebrants in the months of June and July, but also it is an opportune time to intensify and strengthen our bond as Calabrian Family.

The gathering today started with the Eucharistic celebration presided over by Rev. Fr. Miller John Masillones, PSDP and was concelebrated by Fr. Mark Jonnel Magos, PSDP. After the mass, Fr. Jonnel gave a talk about the grace and responsibility of being part of the Calabrian Family.

Fr. Jonnel started his talk by animating the Calabrian Family through an action song entitled, “Welcome to the Family.” After which, he explained that all gathered without exemption whether priests, religious brothers and sisters, and laity are members of God’s family. He shared that for St. John Calabria, the founder of the Poor Servants of Divine Providence Congregation, everyone who steps into our house even though spending only a few minutes are to be considered as members of the Calabrian family. He added that by virtue of our baptism, we become God’s children and we have God as our Father. This, according to him, is at the core of the Calabrian spirituality.

Furthermore, he emphasized that to be members of the Calabrian Family is both a grace and a responsibility. In order to strengthen our bond as a Family, he shared three (3) indispensable elements: communication, communion, and prayer. He ended his short talk with a hope that as a Family deeply rooted in the vision of St. John Calabria, we may progress in faith, hope, and charity.
